The Ministry of Defence has highlighted the importance of indigenisation across the UAV ecosystem, including critical components. In 2026, the Raksha Mantri called for India to build a strong indigenous drone manufacturing ecosystem to strengthen strategic autonomy and defence preparedness.
The Chief of Defence Staff has similarly highlighted the risks of dependence on imported niche technologies, particularly for sustained operations and scalability.
For drones, this means looking deeper into the supply chain—including critical components such as batteries.
